Step 1: Nomination

The process begins with nominations. ICC Full Member nations can each nominate a candidate for the Chairman position.

Who Are the Full Members?

The ICC has 12 Full Members: Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, and Ireland.

Step 2: Voting Process

The ICC Board, consisting of representatives from Full Members and Associate Members, votes by secret ballot. A two-thirds majority is needed to win.

Step 3: Possible Multiple Rounds

If no candidate gets the required majority in the first round, additional voting rounds may take place until a winner emerges.

Step 4: Term and Role

The elected ICC Chairman serves a two-year term, with the possibility of re-election. The Chairman presides over the ICC Board and shapes the future of international cricket.

The Importance of the Role

The ICC Chairman holds significant influence, making decisions that impact the global cricketing landscape. Their leadership is crucial for the sport's future.
